Marshall Islands capital gains tax: none on shares, crypto or property
The Marshall Islands has no personal capital gains tax, so the tax on your investment gain is zero. Shares, funds, crypto and property alike, a private disposal carries no tax on the gain, whatever the holding period. The Income Tax Act 1989 charges wages, business gross revenue, land lease income and non-resident fees, and nothing in it taxes the gain itself.

Questions
Marshall Islands capital gains tax questions
Does the Marshall Islands have a capital gains tax?
No. The Income Tax Act 1989 imposes tax on four things only: wages and salaries, the gross revenue of businesses, gross income from leased land, and fees paid to non-residents for services. None of them charges a gain on selling shares, funds, crypto or property. The IMF's 2025 report on the Marshall Islands states that dividends, interest and capital gains are not taxed. Whether you sell after a week or after twenty years, the gain is not taxed.
Is investment income taxed in the Marshall Islands?
Only land rents. Dividends, interest and capital gains are untaxed, and the personal income tax applies to wages and salaries alone. Land lease income carries a 3% tax on the gross amount, withheld by the lessee.
Is crypto taxed in the Marshall Islands?
Not as a capital gain. The Marshall Islands has no capital gains tax, and crypto held as a private investment is a capital asset like any other. Wage tax does not reach it because a gain is not a wage.
When does a sale become taxable?
When you sell as a business. The gross revenue tax charges a business's receipts at $80 a year up to $10,000 and 3% above, with no deduction for what the goods cost. A person who trades as a business pays on turnover, while an investor selling a holding pays nothing on the gain.
